New Foursquare update now available for download

Tags: Droid

If you're a frequent Foursquare user you'll want to check in to the Android Market to grab the latest update. The changelog indicates some minor fixes with being able to add and accept friends as well, corrects some issues with the widget. Nothing drastic but an update nonetheless. Download links after the break.

Pre 2 to come in a German flavor too?

Tags: Pre 2

The Pre 2 is coming to the UK SIM-Free (and, sadly, free of carrier support) on November 15th. It will come to to Verizon any week now. HP will also be selling an unlocked version to developers and even consumers. So while it's not getting wide carrier support, we expect it to be readily available to people who want to try to find it.

One such person, PreCentral forum member meauxritz, who was poking around Palm Germany's store and found and "accessory," which in this case looks quite a lot like the Pre 2, with the model number 1075EU-UMTS and a price tag of 499 Euro. Looks like it's available for purchase right now to ship in one to two business days for anybody who's jonesing hard enough for some QWERTZ action to give it a shot.

Skype for webOS 2.0 gets quick look

Tags: Skype

We have previously reported that Skype is coming to webOS 2.0 as a Verizon Wireless exclusive (at least in the U.S.). This morning, Mobiputing posted some photos of a recent preview of Skype for webOS 2.0. As is sadly the new norm with Skype on Verizon, you can make non-minutes calls to Skype users and make fairly cheap international calls, but domestic calls will simply go through Verizon's network and will use your minutes.

A couple more photos available at the source link. We assume that we'll be able to give this thing a proper go-round ourselves very soon - stay tuned!

Hotmail now supports push email, calendar, and contacts with Exchange ActiveSync

Hotmail is making it easier for you to stay up-to-date and be productive on your phone. Starting today, you can get your email, calendar, and contacts pushed automatically to your phone using Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). EAS keeps everything in sync between your phone and Hotmail, so whatever you do on your phone, like delete an email, add an appointment, or update one of your contacts with a new number, will also be reflected on the web, and vice-versa. If you use an email client on your PC that already syncs with Hotmail, like Outlook with the Outlook Connector or Windows Live Mail, what you do on your phone will show up there as well, delivering a seamless experience for managing your stuff between your PC email client, your browser, and your phone.
Today, EAS is supported by over 300 million mobile devices worldwide, including some of the most popular Windows, Nokia, and Palm smartphones, as well as the iPhone and iPad. For a full list of supported devices, click here.

Setup details: I encourage you to take a look at the phone-specific setup instructions and known issues at the Windows Live Solution Center page on Active Sync setup.

In the coming months, we will continue to bring out new features and capabilities based on feedback from our users, so please, stay tuned for more.

Pre 2: unlocked in the UK, but not from any carriers

We’re pumped to see the Palm Pre 2 made available in the United Kingdom in a delicious unlocked flavor, but that’s only from Palm. Even in GSM-friendly unlocked-happy Europe, most customers still get their phones direct from the carrier, complete with hefty subsidizations. The carrier is where you won’t be able to get the Palm Pre 2 in England, Scotland, Wales, or anywhere else in the British Isles. Pocket-lint has confirmed with UK cellular carriers Orange, Three, Vodafone, and O2 that none of them have plans to carry the Palm Pre 2. We can’t say we’re stunned - support for the phone from carriers has been weak at best. In fact, the only announced carriers are Verizon and SFR, and they were known at launch. Here’s hoping their all holding out for something new, maybe in January...
